So Many Fantastic Blogs, So Little Time: Blog Of The Year

Blog of the Year Award 1 star jpeg

Thank you iamforchange for this gift of appreciation. Please visit his blog for wonderful, sensitive poetry that comes from a big heart. I reciprocate with a nomination for iamforchange.

My life has been enriched by the talents of so many gifted bloggers who form a fantastic community of art, literature, spirituality and wisdom from many vocations and professions. It’s a privilege to acknowledge their contributions here on WordPress. So I wish to nominate the following bloggers whose wonderful posts I have had the pleasure of visiting again and again.

Allison’s Ideas – Allison pours her heart out in a way that is intimate, trusting and well crafted. Yet she is only a teenager. She draws everyone in to her life with a transparency that is beautiful, and a rich, deep and varied life it is for one so young. I believe she will become a great writer if she so chooses.

Bravesmartbold – As a teacher and a parent I appreciate Lisa’s humor, passion and insight. I relate to her education frustrations. I look forward to her posts.

Breise! Breise! Extra! Extra! – Loretto’s blog is filled with interesting posts about Irish culture and the art of writing. Her book Outward Walls was psychologically fascinating and I just ordered her book The Foundling. Her’s is a wonderful blog.

Calculated Mess – This blog is so quirky and fun. I’ve used posts from calculated mess in my classroom. The students find them very interesting.

Charity Spring – Tanushree’s blog is spiritual and wonderfully insightful. She makes you step back and think deeply about things like anger, materialism, gratitude, happiness and the needs of others. Her’s was one of the first blogs I started reading.

Life out of the Box – Jonathon and Quinn create so much hope by showing us what passion and a dream can accomplish with courage and action. Their hard work is bearing fruit as Nicaraguan children receive gifts of school supplies. I can’t wait to see their business blossom.

Mustard Seed Budget – Pastor Ashcroft is a daily inspiration. His posts are always uplifting and practical. My own spiritual life is enhanced through reading his blog.

Purnimodo – Purnimodo’s blog is another I have enjoyed as one of the first blogs I read. She is complex, talented, deep thinking, very intelligent, and sensitive. I am always blown away by her unique and witty perspective on life as well as her poetry and art.

rarasaur – What can I say? I have so much fun reading rarasaur’s fascinating blog posts and the playful comments that I can’t leave rarasaur’s blog without a great big smile on my face.

Malcolm’s Corner – This blog is a tour of a broad range of subjects written by a gentlemen with a broad, scholarly mind. Malcolm writes on everything from finances to law to backpacking and aging. Just peruse the categories and you’ll be impressed. But Malcolm conveys challenging topics in a very readable style. I’ll be working through his library of posts for a long time to come.

Dean J. Baker – Poetry, and Prose – Dean’s poetry is beautiful artwork. He uses words like an accomplished artist uses color and texture.  His work is so good I purchased his collections.

The Eclectic Eccentric Shopaholic – KZ is in your face authentic, witty and an excellent writer. I enjoy her prolific posts and responses to writing prompts.

Smoodock’s Blog – For New Testament studies Eddie’s blog has been a valuable resource for me. I can tell Eddie’s knowledge is the product of many years of study. I appreciate the hard work that Eddie has put into the scriptures.

Tales of Street’s in Karachi – Kazmisahib is a gifted photo journalist and his photo documentation of life in Karachi has given me a window into another culture that I would never have had without his talents. Thank you Kazmisahib!

The process of nominating blogs has been frustrating because I could go on and on with nominations for blogs that I’ve enjoyed. I’ve tried to limit the nominations to blogs with which I have had some sort of special interactions or have made an impact on me that stands out in my heart and mind. I cannot reiterate enough what a privilege it is to enjoy the company of so many great bloggers.

The following is the rules for this nomination!

1 Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award.

2 Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen – there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required – and ‘present’ them with their award.

3 Please include a link back to this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award – include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alterthe rules or the badges!)

4 Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them

5 You can now also join the award’s Facebook group – click ‘like’ on this page‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award Facebook group and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience if you choose to

6 As a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars…

Yes – that’s right – there are stars to collect!

Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once – this award is different!

When you begin you will receive the ‘1 star’ award – and every time you are given the award by another blog – you can add another star!

There are a total of 6 stars to collect.

Which means that you can check out your favorite blogs – and even if they have already been given the award by someone else – you can still bestow it on them again and help them to reach the maximum 6 stars!

Warmth and Peace to all of you

LOL! Foil Man didn’t strike me as the kind that craves recognition. No wonder he’s posting his photos on YOUR blog.
Tell him “Waaaa. Waaaa. Somebody call the waaambulance.”
I do like the fact that he’s a kind of muse for you. If he encourages you to post. I’ll cut him slack. 🙂

What a great person you are Robert. I never thought when I started blogging almost two years ago that I would enjoy it so much and feel fulfilled writing about things that interested me and reading other people’s blog posts too. Thanks for buying the second book. Hope you enjoy it! Loretto

    • Robert-preneur December 14, 2012 at 6:16 AM #

You’re too kind Loretto. The great thing about this community is the mutual support, appreciation and acceptance of other bloggers talents and perspectives. I’ve really never experienced a more positive community.
I look forward to reading “The Foundling.” I’m toasting your new book with a Bordeaux.

  6. Malcolm Greenhill December 14, 2012 at 5:22 AM #

Robert, congratulations on your award and thank you for nominating Malcolm’s Corner. From experience I have become somewhat cynical of our education system. I think if I knew a few more teachers like you I would change my mind.

    • Robert-preneur December 14, 2012 at 6:25 AM #

I deeply appreciate your words Malcolm. Education is a complex tangle of political, social, philosophical and academic issues and most of us classroom grunts are trying to feel our way through while doing our best to help the kids achieve their goals and dreams.
I’m looking forward to Christmas break so I can spend more time reading. I want to read more of your posts on economics, politics and philosophy. It’s a historic time for such discussions. Warmth and Peace my friend.

Hi Robert, just wanted to check in. You’re a teacher, you’re hurting over what happened in Newtown. I know.

    • Robert-preneur December 16, 2012 at 8:29 AM #

Thank you so much Loretto. Your thoughtfulness means so much to me. I know from your bio that you live in Conn. Are you anywhere near Newtown? I hope all is well with you, your husband and your son.
Such shootings as Newtown’s are a reality that sit deep in the back of my mind as a teacher. They are forced out when we have lock down drills for a shooter on campus. I have prepared myself spiritually for the possibility that I may be called on to do what those teachers and the principal did for their kids. I am haunted by the picture of Victoria Soto. She had beautiful, compassionate eyes. I’ve known many young colleagues like her.
We have to get control of these guns Loretto. If not, they need to allow me to carry a weapon at school. Can you imagine teachers walking around classrooms with 9mm’s and .45’s holstered on their hips? It’s getting that insane.
Blessings to you and your family Loretto and thank you again for thinking of me.
