Love Is What Remains

I touch a pulsing heart in a hologram,
the love is real,
the embrace flickers
and fades
recorded on a hard drive
whirring as recollection
meets time somewhere
in the middle of a
breath stored
as a temporary file

in a life of terabytes
I gaze on sunsets,
watch the traffic,
hug my son
all quantum mysteries
folded within themselves
data encoded
then erased
but the love is real.

Each kindness a spike
on a graph, a
mathematical function
stored in the software,
hatred a corruption
in the program
skewing the lines
distorting the images
but not a negation
of the love

that exists both
inside and out
when the hologram
the kindness, love,
generosity, faith,
rests atop a grassy
hill, glistening
in the sunlight,
etched in gold

Absolutely beautiful. Favorite part is “in a life of terabytes
    I gaze on sunsets,
    watch the traffic,
    hug my son
    all quantum mysteries
    folded within themselves” gorgeous.

Thank you Loretto. Love is so incredibly powerful. I see it constantly as a teacher. Students hunger for it, are drawn to it, respect it and learn to respond in kind. It makes me ache to see how shallow and artificial are the things that gain their attention, allegiance and affections. They live off the spiritual equivalents of junk food and sometimes poison. Teaching keeps me grounded. Otherwise I’d constantly be soaring aloft in the metaphysics of love which I find breathtaking.
      Warmth and affection
